Because of its ability to eliminate the bacteria in the stomach, black pepper is also thought of as an antibacterial agent.
Black pepper, rich in antioxidants, effectively controls blood pressure and heart rate with its high level of potassium. Risks of Black Pepper
Although the increased secretion of hydrochloric acid provides digestion benefits for most people, in some in can cause the opposite effect, resulting in the loss of potassium. For some, this increased production may also result in gastric bleeding.
Some studies have indicated that piperine may be a carcinogen although other studies have indicated that it is not. In some instances, this chemical has had an adverse effect on sperm and may interfere with the process of reproduction. Large amounts of black pepper when used during pregnancy have been shown to cause miscarriages in some cases.
Medications including lithium may interact badly with black or white pepper and use should be avoided by patients on these medications. Patients that are taking certain medications that are broken down by the liver can see an increase in the side effects of these drugs when combined with large amounts of pepper.
Buying Black Pepper and Proper Storage
To ensure the purest pepper, it is often recommended to choose peppercorns versus the previously ground pepper. When making a purchase, choose peppercorns that are round, heavy and look compact.
Store peppercorns at room temperature. Once it has been milled, or ground into powder, store it in an airtight container in the refrigerator. If powdered pepper has been purchased, for best results store it in the same manner.
Cooking Uses
One of the most versatile spices, pepper is used in nearly every aspect of cooking. To ensure the best flavor and fragrance, grind at the last minute, just as you are preparing the recipe. It should also be added at the last minute to prevent the loss of the flavorful and fragrant essential oils.
Pepper can be used in a number of recipes and dishes including marinades, pickle recipes, soups and barbecue sauces. Pepper may often be found as an ingredient in sweet foods including pies and fruit cakes to add a spicy element to the recipe.
As with any food product, there are some risks or side effects that everyone should be aware of. Unless a person has an allergy to pepper, there is only a small risk of any problems. Sinus Congestion Home Remedies For The Serious Sufferer

A sinus headache is difficult to deal with, and it can sometimes last for hours.
Between allergy season, cold and flu season and everyday pollutants in the air, sinus headaches are commonplace, causing pain, intense pressure, a lack of concentration and even difficulty sleeping. While many over the counter and prescription remedies are available to ease sinus congestion, many sufferers prefer to avoid the side effects of such remedies, and they turn to more natural, home remedies. Here are some of the most effective sinus congestion home remedies.
At the top of the list for sinus remedies is a home humidifier. Humidifiers add moisture to the air, helping to break up congestion and making it easier to breathe. They can be used in any room of the house, throughout the day and while sleeping too.
In addition to using a humidifier, many sufferers find it beneficial to inhale essential oils. Peppermint and eucalyptus are popular choices. A few drops of either oil can be added to a humidifier, or a sufferer can simply dab a couple of drops of their favorite essential oil on a cloth napkin, holding it close to the nose and inhaling. In addition, essential oils can be used in a steamy shower, with effects that are much like that offered by a humidifier. Essential oils help to remove stress from the body calm the nervous system and unclog plugged up nasal passageways, making them a great option for relieving sinus congestion.
Another of the most popular sinus congestion home remedies includes drinking herbal tea. Herbal teas help to moisturize the sinus passages, and the warm heat they provide can also be inhaled to clear feelings of congestion and promote sweating, which helps the body to release toxins that may be causing the sinus headache. Among the most popular teas are chamomile, lavender and peppermint. Tea can be consumed several times a day, and it particularly effective in easing symptoms of insomnia, often associated with sinus headaches, if consumed before bedtime.
For those open to working with a non-traditional medical practitioner, acupuncture can help to relieve painful swelling and discomfort in the sinus cavity. Acupuncture unblocks energy channels and stimulates the body. This often causes draining in the sinus passages, which can lead to a feeling of relief. Individuals interested in this treatment should consult with a certified practitioner for guidance.
Finally, sinus headache sufferers have found relief by watching their intake of dairy products. This includes milk, cheese, yogurt and butter. In some individuals, dairy increases the production of mucus, which can clog the sinus cavities and cause severe headaches. When dairy is reduced in, or eliminated from, the diet, the result is often a decrease in sinus pressure headaches and an instant feeling of relief. Individuals who wish to continue enjoying dairy like products while avoiding excessive mucus production should opt for soy cheeses and milk, almond milk or coconut milk instead.
Sinus congestion home remedies can help individuals to find relief from painful sinus headaches. When used on a regular basis, things like dietary changes, consuming herbal teas and using a humidifier with essential oils added in can provide comfort to sufferers without the need for sometimes harmful medications.By

20 Ways to Lose Weight

1. Take it one step at a time
Start by paying attention to what you eat. Cut back on fat and sweets and add more fruit and vegetables. After you have that under control, add exercise. If you hate to exercise try it for only 15 minutes a day at first, then a 1/2-hour. Keep in mind that while you are exercising you are burning calories and not eating. Also, it will be easier if you chose an activity that you enjoy.
2. Find a friend
It is always good to have support when you are trying to lose weight. Find a friend who wants to lose weight and compare notes, weigh-in together and maybe even have a contest.
3. Use weights
Working out weights will build muscle and raise your metabolism so you will burn more calories. Also, muscle takes up less space than fat so you will be smaller ( but probably weigh more).
4. Eat fewer carbs
Don't eat as much bread and pasta and you will see a difference.
5. Set a goal
Set a deadline to lose the weight and write it down. For example, ' By Dec 14/04 I will weigh 150 lbs or less'. Put it somewhere you will see it daily.
6. Give up soda
If you drink a soda or 2 a day you are adding empty calories. If you find it hard to stop
completely, cut back at first and drink water instead.
7. Grill or boil
Avoid fried meat, grill and use lots of spices. You will get used to it and probably enjoy it more.
8. Don't buy junk food
When you go shopping, don't go on an empty stomach and you will be less likely to buy junk food. Keep your home 'junk food free' so you won't be tempted to indulge.
9. Eat breakfast
Consume most of your calories early in the day and always eat breakfast. Don't eat after 8pm and
not only will you avoid those added calories but you will sleep better.
10. Give yourself a treat
When you tell yourself that you can't have something you want it more. Give yourself a treat once a day ( ie. half a cookie) and you won't feel you are missing out.
11. Use smaller plates
Trick yourself into believing that you are eating more by using a smaller plate.
12. Drink lots of water
Drink water when you are feeling hungry and you will get that 'full' feeling.
13. Don't eat everything on your plate
Many times we eat just because it's there. Pay attention to when you have had enough.
14. Eat five or six meals a day
Eating more frequently will keep you from getting too hungry.
15. Plan your workout sessions
Write your workout sessions in your journal or planner.
16. Stay away from fad diets
Fad diets don't work. If you lose weight fast chances are that you will gain it back ( and more)
just as fast. It takes time to put it on and time to take it off.
17. Do several workouts a day
While you are watching TV do crunches and leg lifts.
18. Measure your food
If you decide to have junk food for a snack - be sure to measure and control what you eat.
19. Keep pre-cut vegetables
...and ward off those cravings.
20. Create Good Habits
It is a known fact that when we do something twenty-one times it becomes a habit. Create good eating habits.

How to Cure and Prevent Varicose Veins Naturally

To prevent and maintain varicose veins, you need to strengthen the walls of your veins. There are several natural treatments available today that will cure and prevent varicose veins without the use of drugs or chemicals.
The herb horse chestnut provides hope for those people with varicose veins. Horse chestnut has in it a natural chemical called aescin, which strengthens vein walls and prevents leaking.
In a study of 22 people with varicose veins, 22 percent of people given horse chestnut had decreased vein leakage, compared to an increase in vein leakage in the people who were given a placebo.
It is recommended that people interested in using horse chestnut to cure varicose veins take two to four 500-mg capsules of the herb daily.
Another thing found to help cure and prevent varicose veins is antioxidants. Antioxidants contain bioflavonoids that strengthen veins. People with varicose veins should eat antioxidant-rich foods, which include fruits and vegetables. The more colorful the fruits and vegetables, the better.
Acupuncture can also help varicose vein problems. Acupuncture reduces the size of varicose veins with no side effects. In one study, five treatments of acupuncture reduced the pain in most people with varicose veins.
Believe it or not, pineapples also contain a natural chemical that treats varicose veins. The chemical, called bromelain, reduces the swelling and soreness that are caused by varicose veins. Bromelain can be taken in capsule form.
Onions, apples, and black tea have also been found to help varicose vein problems. These foods have a chemical called quercetin, which is an anti-inflammatory. Quercetin also comes in capsule form. It should be taken together with bromelain for optimum effectiveness.
Another, simpler way of preventing and treating varicose veins is to simply put your feet up for 10 minutes per day. The idea is that your legs should be raised higher than your heart so that blood can flow away from your veins and give them a chance to get stronger. To do this, lie back and put your feet up on a coffee table or chair.
If this 10-minute-per-day break is hard for you to fit into your schedule, you can purchase a mattress wedge that raises the foot of your bed by several inches. This way you can help your varicose vein problem while you sleep.
Another solution is to wear compression stockings or an anti-embolism hose. You must get these fitted because if they are too tight they can do more harm than good. Compression stockings and anti-embolism hoses restore veins and help them function properly.
If these natural solutions fail to help a varicose vein problem, there are other, more invasive procedures, including: laser and low-level radiofrequency energy, sclerotherapy, TriVex, and endovenous ablation. These procedures may remove varicose veins but they can be expensive and inconvenient..
The above-mentioned treatments are simple, pain-free ways to deal with varicose veins. They can always be used on their own or as a complement to varicose vein removing procedures.

Foods That Detox The Liver And Remove Cellulite

Cellulite is the orange peel-like appearance of fat on the skin; usually beginning on the thighs, then advancing to other parts of the body. Almost 85% of women have cellulite; regardless whether they are fat or thin, young or old. Fortunately, there are foods that detox the liver and help reduce the appearance of the ghastly appearance of skin.
How Does Liver Detoxification Help?
When the liver is overworked or unhealthy, it cannot effectively deal with the female estrogen that is thought to contribute in the development of cellulite. Anything that hinders proper circulation of lymphatic fluid or blood can cause the skin problem. Various factors that also contribute to this are lack of exercise, insufficient water intake, excessive stress, unhealthy eating, constipation, hormonal cycles, poor breathing and air pollution. The liver needs to work non-stop in dealing with toxins in the air, on what you apply on your skin, etc. If it cannot handle all those things, cellulite will appear. Thus, cleansing the liver will greatly help in easing the toxins that have accumulated during its filtering functions in the body.
They are rich in pectin, a complex form of carbohydrate that is required by the body in cleansing and eliminating toxins from your digestive tract. Eating an apple a day will give your liver an easier time in handling the toxic load it needs to filter.
This is another super food that is dense in nutrients that promote the body in producing glutathione compound required by the liver to effectively filter out toxins from the lymphatic fluids and blood.
Beets, Carrots
Both vegetables are rich in beta-carotene and plant flavonoids that will stimulate, as well as improve functions of the liver.
This herb can definitely make meals tasty; but that is not the only wonder it can do. Garlic offers a lot of health benefits and among them is that it can activate liver enzymes in order to flush out toxins from the body. It also contains selenium and allicin, compounds that also help cleanse the organ.
This fruit contains high amounts of antioxidants and vitamin C, which both help improve the natural liver cleansing abilities. Squeeze your sliced grapefruit to fill a small glass with fresh juice. Drink it up to boost liver enzyme production. With this, toxins and carcinogens can be easily flushed out.
Green Tea
It contains catechins, plant antioxidants or compound that aids liver production. This refreshing tea can also improve your overall health and assist in your weight loss goals.
Green Leafy Vegetables
These vegetables can be eaten cooked, raw or juiced. They can supply you with lots of plant chlorophyll that can satisfactorily siphon toxins in your blood stream. These nutrients-rich vegetables can neutralize chemicals, heavy metals and pesticides; thus, offering powerful protection for the organ. Incorporate green and leafy vegetables in your diet such as spinach, mustard and bitter gourd in your meals. This will increase bile production and flow so that wastes can be effectively removed from the blood and the organs.
Lemons, Limes
Fresh lemon juice can offer a lot of health benefits, mainly blood purifying and weight loss.

These home remedies for wrinkles are effective yet deceptively simple. We all hate those wrinkles, and each year we discover more of them and some have even become deeper and longer. Wrinkles occur due to many things. It could be the use of bad skin care products that contain cheap ingredients that harm your skin (this happens more than you think). It could also be due to stress, pollution, smoking, too much sun and many more. You're here now to learn some simple home remedies for wrinkles and how you can supercharge your skin.
Here are 3 simple ways you can reduce your wrinkles and look younger:
#1 - Egg White Wash
Take an egg white and put it on your face. It will help your skin tighten and look younger, keep it there for around 15 minutes before washing it off (do not use soap) and patting dry.
#2 - Coconut Oil
For this, you need some extra virgin coconut oil, you want it to be cold-pressed and unheated. If it is heated then it has no use to your skin and will only clog it up.Gently massage the coconut oil wherever you want. My routine is to usually massage coconut oil in the morning and a good natural skin care product containing Cynergy TK before bedtime.
#3 - Natural Skin Care Product
You can get ingredients like jojoba oil, grapeseed oil, and even Cynergy TK and make your own mix, but I really like to find good ethical companies that make excellent natural skin care products. And I've found a great one that is all of those things, and it contains ingredients that are incredibly effective for wrinkles.
Cynergy TK is a breakthrough ingredient that is almost like cheating, it is really that good and it will rejuvenate your skin naturally and make you look incredible, and don't just believe what I say. Go out and research it for yourself, and ask people who have used it how they liked it. I am sure that they will respond positively.
With all this in mind, now it is your turn to find the best natural skin care product that you like.

What You Need to Know About Eye Allergies

Don't ignore itchy, watery eyes. Many times, this discomfort is caused by eye allergies, and depending on the severity, it may be easily treated. These allergies are uncomfortable, irritating and, at times, painful.
What Are the Symptoms of Eye Allergies?
Eye allergies commonly cause red, itchy eyes and swollen eyelids. This allergy can be very irritating and unsightly. Allergies occur when you come in contact with an allergen and the mast cells in your eyes release histamines that can cause your eyes to water and itch. This may be accompanied with a combination of other symptoms such as a runny nose, coughing, sneezing or a headache.
What Can Trigger Eye Allergies?
There are many things in our environment that can trigger an allergic reaction that can affect your eyes. The most common triggers are grass, weeds, trees and pet dander. Perfume, cigarette smoke and many other allergens can cause reactions ranging from mild to severe. You may be allergic to a specific indoor or outdoor allergen or you can have a reaction to a broad range of allergens.
How Can Eye Allergies be Treated?
It is best to limit your contact with anything that may cause an allergic reaction but at times it can be unavoidable. The most common reaction to an allergy of the eyes is seasonal allergic conjunctivitis. Some mild allergy symptoms can be treated with over-the-counter medications, but if you find that this does not control your symptoms, or if your symptoms are severe and disruptive to your daily activities, you should visit a health professional. Allergies in general will not harm your eyesight but there are some rarer conditions that cause inflammation and can affect your eye sight.
Contact Lenses and Eye Allergies
Some contact wearers suffer from these allergies. Symptoms can make it difficult to wear contacts. Allergens can adhere to your lenses and cause a reaction. Before you use eye drops to alleviate your symptoms, check with your doctor to make sure that they don't contain anything that may harm your lenses. You may also consider switching to disposable lenses that you change nightly. Allergens are less likely to adhere to your lenses and cause discomfort with frequent replacement.
You can check your local allergy map to see when allergy season in your area is active. It will help to have on hand any allergy medications you need to control flare-ups. Your doctor can also offer advice and medications to eliminate or reduce your symptoms.

Natural Cough Remedies For Babies

When your baby comes down with a cough, you want to do whatever you can to make her more comfortable. Yet at the same time, you don't want to grab over the counter medication, since there are usually side effects and chemicals that you'd rather not expose babies to if it can be avoided. What's more, recent studies have shown that cough syrups are worthless and the sugar they contain may even prolong illness.
Thankfully there are quite a few natural remedies that you can try to calm your baby's cough. If your baby seems congested, take her in the bathroom and run a hot shower. The steam from the shower will help loosen that congestion in her lungs.
Putting your baby in a warm (not hot) bath can have the same effect. Make the bath even more effective by adding a few drops of eucalyptus, sage or thyme oil into the bath water. The vapors from these essential oils will help open baby's airways, allowing her to breath easier. The vapors from these oils will also sooth a sore throat.
If your baby's cough is caused by croup, sometimes the best course of action is to wrap her up warmly and take her out in the night air. The cold air sometimes calms the inflammation in the upper airways.
You can also use sage and thyme to make tea out of them. The warm herbal tea will help clear mucus out of your baby's lungs. Please check with your pediatrician to find out at what age you can start giving your baby these herbal teas.
Licorice tea is another great natural cough treatment. Licorice has antibacterial properties that will help you baby fight the bacteria that are causing the cough. It also soothes the throat and calms the respiratory tract; helping her get some much needed sleep. Make a cup of licorice tea and give it to your baby as warm as possible, of course without burning her.
Another very effective and gentle natural cough remedy for babies is an herbal rub. Start with 3 to 4 tablespoons of olive oil and add 2 drops of essential oils to the olive oil. Good oils to use are eucalyptus, sage, rosemary and peppermint oil. A mixture of eucalyptus and rosemary works really well at night, since the eucalyptus will calm your baby's cough and allow her to breath easier, while the rosemary helps calm her down and drift off to sleep.
Mix the olive oil and essential oils well, then apply the mixture to your baby's chest and back. If the baby is small, swaddle her in a soft blanket, otherwise keep her back and chest as covered as possible with a thicker, tight fitting shirt to build up body heat which will allow the essential oils to vaporize. As baby breathes in the fumes, breathing will get easier.
A humidifier is another great option when it comes to making your coughing baby more comfortable. Use a few of the same essential oils suggested above and run the humidifier in baby's bedroom.
Some Moms have found that breastmilk will help soothe and heal a cough better than any other drink. If you're nursing and baby develops a cough, don't stop breastfeeding. Increase baby's feedings. Breastmilk is not a dairy product and is the safest food for baby when he's sick.
This article is provided for information purposes only. Please consult your baby's health care provider before trying home remedies.

4 Common Toenail Fungus Home Remedies Known To Clear Nail Fungus

No one wants to have to run to the store to collect a bunch of ingredients just to cure toenail fungus. So here are some home remedies known to cure nail fungus.
I must give you a bit of a warning however...
Nail fungus in 2012 is very tough. It's becoming more resilient to home remedies so the time involved to cure your toenail fungus might be a bit longer than what you read online nowadays.
Here are 4 common toenail fungus home remedies to help clear your nails:
  1. Vinegar footbaths - Grab a shoebox-sized container large enough for your foot and fill it with cooking vinegar deep enough to cover your toenails when you place your foot in it. Do this for 30 minutes, twice daily. It can take around 4-6 months before it clears.

  2. Anti-fungal mouthwash footbaths - mouthwash is known to work as well because of it's anti-fungal properties. Use the same procedure as the Vinegar footbath. This can be rather costly over time.

  3. Bleach and water mixture - Mix 80% water/20% into a container. Submerge your toes into the diluted solution for a couple minutes at a time. Just make sure it's watered down enough. If you notice redness or tingling add more water to weaken it. Just be careful with this home treatment option.

  4. Tea Tree Oil - You can get this stuff at the grocery store. It can does pretty well on light infections, but not strong enough to take care of a fungal infection around 3 months or more in my opinion.
A great way to create a treatment on the go is to take a cotton ball in dip it in vinegar or tea tree oil, then secure it to your infected toenail with a piece of medical tape so it can breath. Just replace it daily.
The only drawback of these toenail fungus home remedies I just discussed is that nowadays it can take up to 6 months before you start noticing results!
And even then, it's often not enough to keep it from coming back a month later...
I know you don't want to wait that long before you have healthy and clear nails, so let me steer you in the right direction.
See... there are all natural EXTRA-STRENGTH home treatments you can apply that can completely eliminate nail fungus in 2-3 months, and they don't require you to spend hours a day to use them either.

Natural Beauty Tips for Women

The most beautiful women in the world know the genius of being beautiful. These women are the neighbors, co-workers, friends and relatives who know and apply this genius; and this genius is the one beauty tip that delivers results.
The Genius of Being Beautiful
This genius is not a new make up foundation or a new beauty treatment to erase the signs of aging. The genius in appearing more beautiful does not involve thousands of dollars in cosmetic procedures. It is in caring for the body, consistently, through the little things done each day.
The genius to being beautiful - consistent care of the body through healthy habits - includes maintaining a healthy diet and staying active. Specifically, drinking more water, eating a natural diet and increasing daily activity. These three specific actions, done consistently, contribute to a more beautiful appearance.
Drinking Plenty of Water
One of the easiest ways to increase beauty is by drinking plenty of water each day. Not only is water necessary for the body to function properly, it also contributes to detoxifying the body and improving the skin's condition. Water also aids the body in eliminating toxic chemicals ingested through foods, drinks and the environment. Digestion also improves when water intake is increased daily.
Simple Ways to Increase Water Intake Daily
  • Switch from drinking soda or juice during the day to drinking water with lemon.
  • Drink a full glass of water first thing in the morning before coffee or tea.
  • Drink a full glass of water after exercise, even if there is no thirst.
Eating a Natural Diet
Processed foods include additives and unnatural ingredients that contribute to illnesses, allergies, weight gain, skin problems, fatigue and other unwanted conditions. Food items in packages are often processed foods; it's a good indicator that unwanted ingredients are included. The best course of action: buy items as close to their natural state as possible. Also, read the ingredients on the packages when in doubt.
Simple Ways to Decrease the Amount of Processed Foods in the Diet
  • Switch from canned juice and soft drinks to unsweetened teas and water.
  • Switch from potato chips and other bagged snacks to natural popcorn.
  • Avoid packaged foods by doing most food shopping at vegetable markets.
Increasing Daily Activity
Increasing daily movement does not equal hours at a costly gym. Exercising at home with a video or purchasing a book for exercise instruction, such as beginners Pilates or yoga, are ways to increase daily movement. There are other ways as well. The point here is to make the effort to move more and get the body burning additional calories. This not only prevents unwanted weight gain, but it also contributes to feeling good.
Simple Ways to Increase Daily Movement
  • Take the stairs instead of the elevator, whenever possible.
  • In a parking lot, park as far from a store's entrance as possible.
  • Walk to a local store or coffee shop instead of driving.
Beautiful Women Smile Often
It was Oscar Wilde, the famous writer, who once said "beauty is genius." Simple and true, this genius is in caring for the body each day, consistently. That gives a woman plenty to smile about. And, with a smile, that beauty is magnified and radiated for all the world to see.

Natural Home Remedies for Parasites that Infect the Intestines

There are four kinds of parasites
The intestines are sometimes infested by parasites, which trouble the patient. The most commonly noticed parasites in India are: threadworm, tapeworm, hookworm and the roundworm. They exist in the intestines because they find a congenial climate for their growth which again is the result of wrong type of feeding which most people indulges in. patients suffering from these worms generally acquire a voracious appetite, but in spite of massive quantities of food they take in, there is no gain the weight. Sometimes they are pale and sickly and, therefore, gloomy. Infants and young children are likely to be irritated all the time and are prone to throw tantrums at the slightest excuse.
The most common and the least harmful parasite infesting the intestines is the threadworm, or enterobius vermicularis. When they are expelled from the anus, they tend to create uncontrollable itch and the patient is forced to scratch his anus. They are small, thread like creatures, which can be noticed in the stools of children. The hookworm and the tapeworm reassemble earthworms: they are, fortunately, less common in our country than threadworms.
It is the dirty habits, like eating food without washing your hands, putting the finger first in the nostril then in the mouth, eating contaminated food, scratching the anus and then eating food without thoroughly washing your hands, using underwear worn by a person suffering from threadworms, constipation, and mucus in the stools, which encourage the parasites to infest the intestines.
Traditional medicine depends on drugs to kill the parasites; they may give temporary relief, but that is more likely to harm the digestive processes and create other complications. Naturopathy, on the other hand, aims at strengthening the intestines so that they can purge themselves of the parasites. The stools of a child suspected to be suffering from threadworms could be examined visually: in some cases they would be found sticking to the anus of the child.
Treatment of threadworm-infested patient must start with cleanliness. A child suffering from it should be administered a warm water enema to which juice of half a fresh lime has been added. It should be followed by administration of about 50 to 100 militres of coconut oil with the help of a syringe through the anus. The child should be asked to strain himself at the time of passing the stools.
The best course would be to start the treatment with fasting: if the young patient or his mother cavils at it, he should be administered fruit juice or clear vegetables soup mixed with water. Lukewarm enema must be given during the treatment both in the morning and evening. Enema would help expel mucus and threadworms from the intestines. Bedclothes of the patient must be aired in the sun every day and he should stay in a well-ventilated room.
If the child is walking he should be encouraged to fast for two days followed by a diet of fruits and boiled vegetables for five to six days. Raw vegetables like carrot, cucumber and onions can be given in addition to tomatoes. Mil and cereals should be totally avoided. Potatoes roasted over the coals and raisins soaked in water could also be given. After that the patient could be allowed porridge or gruel. When he has started taking cereals, milk should not be given to him not lentils.
Cold compresses and mudpack applied from the navel to the pubes can also help in the initial stages of the treatment. Juice of garlic could also be taken recourse to since it kills the parasites without harming the patient.
This course of treatment could help in dealing with disease like the enlargement of a spleen, hepatitis low fever, goiter, mumps, discharge of pus from the ear and swollen eyes in children.

Lemongrass and Cancer - Can Lemongrass Treat Or Prevent Cancer?

Lemongrass, sometimes written as lemon grass, is an herb commonly used both as a seasoning and as an ingredient in herbal teas. In recent years, Lemongrass has received a great deal of press surrounding its potential to treat or prevent cancer. This article explores the degree to which these claims have been verified by science, and the mechanisms through which it is thought lemongrass may be able to treat or prevent cancer.
Citral is the primary component of the essential oil of lemongrass, constituting well over half the total oil content. Citral is one of the many chemicals giving lemongrass its strong lemony aroma, and it is also found in lemons and a number of other lemon-scented herbs.
Citral has been studied for its potential to treat cancer, due to its ability to induce cell death (apoptosis) in cancer cells. Cancer cells are able proliferate in part by deactivating the cell death program, which normally causes damaged or mutated cells to self-destruct. The work on citral inducing cell death in cancer cells comes from in vitro experiments (controlled laboratory experiments, as in test tubes or petri dishes), and these results have not been verified in human or animal studies. It is not known the degree to which these properties would actually carry through into humans drinking lemongrass tea or taking extracts of lemongrass as herbal supplements.
Citral also has been studied for other mechanisms of anti-cancer action. A study in rats found Citral to inhibit the formation of retinoic acid from retinol, a chemical reaction involved in the formation of skin tumors.
Other anti-cancer activity of Lemongrass:
Lemongrass also has a number of other active constituents with medicinal properties, including geraniol and citronellol. Some studies have looked at lemongrass as a whole, rather than its individual component chemicals. One study in rats found lemongrass to protect against the formation of cancer cells in the liver. There is also some evidence that lemongrass inhibits the formation of cancer in the digestive tract.
Lemongrass also has been found to have powerful antioxidant effects--stronger than the food preservatives BHA and BHT. Antioxidants are often touted as having the potential to prevent cancer, although these claims are controversial and not universally true. However, there are other benefits to antioxidants, including the prevention of spoilage of food. This benefit has been firmly established for lemongrass--the herb acts as a powerful natural preservative.
In summary:
The research on lemongrass and its role in cancer prevention or treatment is young and inconclusive. However, there is some evidence that lemongrass may be useful for preventing or treating cancer. A number of different chemical components of the essential oil of lemongrass have been studied for anti-cancer properties, and a number of different anti-cancer mechanisms have been discussed.
Lemongrass has been studied in lab animals for its potential to prevent the formation of several different types of tumors and cancers, including colon cancer and cancer of the digestive tract, lung cancer, liver cancer, skin cancer and other a number of other types of tumors. In vitro experiments and some animals studies show promising results for prevention, and to some degree for treatment, but it has yet to be shown whether or not these benefits carry through into humans. In addition, dosages necessary to achieve any benefits in humans (if they exist) are also unknown.
Lemongrass is, however, safe for general consumption both as a seasoning and as an herbal tea, and no adverse effects have been documented from moderate use of lemongrass tea. In addition, it has a pleasing lemon scent. For people interested in cancer prevention, lemongrass certainly cannot hurt and might be worth a try.
