Ingrown Pubic Hair - Get Rid Of It Now!

In today's world of fitness and fashion, it's becoming the mode (again) to have a clean and bald look at the pubic area. Why the word 'again'?
The ancient Greeks, Egyptians and Indians preferred this look, and perfected ways to accomplish it.
They also knew how to deal with ingrown pubic hair, so let's look at some tried and trusted ways to take care of this problem.
What is an ingrown pubic hair?
An ingrown pubic hair is one that grows at an abnormal angle and turns back into the skin, causing the formation of a pustule or papule (A small, solid inflammatory elevation of the skin that may or may not contain pus.
Also commonly known as "razor bumps"). This is unsightly and an unwanted side-effect to the bald look.
How do you get it?
There are many ways, but the most common way is to shave with a razor in the opposite direction of the natural hair growth.
The pubic hair can also be trapped beneath the skin from blockages to the hair follicle (also caused by shaving in many cases). Also the other hair removal methods such as shaving, waxing, tweezing, electrolysis, often irritate the hair follicle, and the hair becomes trapped beneath the skin.
What do I do now?
There are many ways to treat it.
The best way, as in all medicine, is prevention. In Part 2 of this series we explain how to prevent ingrown pubic hair, but now you need first aid.
So here are the proven methods, some taken from the ancient Greeks and Egyptians who had the same problem 3000 years ago.
oUnderstanding that the body will try to eliminate the ingrown pubic hair itself, help it along. Go to a sauna, and when you have built up a good sweat, lightly scrub (meaning exfoliate, i.e. take off the dead skin) with a "loofa".
A loofa is a marine plant that grows in the Nile, and resembles a coarse sponge. You can find it at any store that sells bath products.
oAfter the sauna, and scrubbing, the ingrown hair may be free (due also to the dilation of the pores while in a sauna), and have a sterilized tweezers ready (the ancient method).
Pluck them out! One by one. You must stretch the skin tightly, grips the hair close to the root, and pull it out. Ouch! But it works. After each pluck, dab on some antiseptic solution.
oIf the above is not suitable for you, then you can do a three times a day compress on the affected area with a wash cloth soaked hot water (not too hot!), followed by the application of any product containing salicylic acid.
Salicylic acid is a strong exfoliating chemical that is useful to free such hair.
Ask your pharmacist to recommend such a product. There are many on the market.
oThe daily use of the compress will help the body fix the problem, but also, you can apply some baby oil mixed with Aloe Vera lotion (make it yourself).
This will keep the skin from becoming further irritated, and the Aloe Vera is a natural antiseptic which will help prevent infection at the affected site.
Of course, there are salon specialists, but their methods will be expensive, and no more effective than the above.
You can also see your doctor, as in everything of this nature, the ingrown hair may not be a simple problem.By

Natural Remedy for Arthritis

People suffering from arthritis will usually resort to medication to relieve their pain. Unfortunately, there is actually no known cure for arthritis contrary to what many pharmaceutical companies say. Dealing with arthritis is not as simple as taking in a particular pill or a single substance. The pain that arthritis creates is enough to drive one crazy as it never abates. This is probably the reason why arthritis sufferers never stop looking for remedies for this particular affliction. Many arthritis sufferers also resort to natural and herbal remedies to help ease the pain. The list of herbs that are said to help treat arthritis pain is a veritable litany of such substances as dish liver oil, shark cartilage, alfalfa, devil's root and many more.
Arthritis patients can best treat their affliction through three basic steps: detoxification, changes in dietary habits, and proper selection of nutrients. And obviously, these three steps can be achieved naturally and organically. Detoxification is important in cleansing the body of toxins. These toxins are the main cause of inflammation starting from the cells of the body. These cells that are clogged by various toxins are not able to use the necessary nutrients it needs to rebuild or restore proper function. Another important natural remedy for arthritis is changing the dietary habits.
Dietary choices play a vital role in the development of arthritis in one's body. Food choices that are low on certain nutrients can adversely affect the body's functions. On the other hand, excessive intake of some substances can also lead to the occurrence of painful rheumatoid arthritis. The third step towards the natural remedy of arthritis is the proper selection of nutrients, to help the body heal itself and fight off the inflammation. One of the most effective substances in the fight against osteoarthritis is Glucosamine Sulfate, which stimulates the formation of connective tissue, an ability that people lose as they grow old

Nail Care System - 12 Tips

Finding a quality nail care system is very important!
Why?
When it comes to making a good impression, well kept fingernails rank highly. Poorly kept nails are almost immediately noticed and can greatly impact a person's image and the all important first assessment when meeting someone for the first time.
Use these 12 care tips as part of a fingernail care system that ensures your nails serve as a good advertisement and help build a positive image:
1. Healthy looking fingernails should be smooth, curved, void of any spotting, and should not have any hollows or ridges.
2. Make sure your fingernails are completely dry before you file them.
3. Shape your nails with a fine emery board, do not use any type of metal file.
4. When filing, try to keep the shape of your fingernails oval not pointed, thus making the nails less susceptible to breakage.
5. The cuticle acts as a seal between the finger and the nail. Gently exfoliating the dry, rough, cuticle skin layers by actually sloughing off the dead outer layers exposes new and vibrant skin.
6. This new healthy skin protects the nails matrix which is the growth center of the nail and should be treated with care.
7. Don't over manicure your cuticles. Over-grooming the cuticle damages the cuticle and causes it to thicken and overgrow.
8. Never use metal or sharp instruments on your cuticles.
9. Wear rubber gloves if your hands are going to be immersed in water for any length of time. Extensive periods in water can dry out the fingernails making them brittle.
10. Apply colorless nail polish or a nail strengthener to the tip of the nail to provide a protective shield.
11. Apply a base coat before putting on nail polish to avoid the nail polish staining the nails. Sometimes the dye in the nail polish can leave a residue and stain the nail.
12. If your fingernails carry stains you will need to let them grow out to remove the stain. Alternatively, lemon juice applied around the tips of the nails can remove some stains.
Nail Biting
If fingernail biting is a problem, setting up a good nail care system can do much to conquer the habit. Those who have the nail biting habit often neglect their hands and give up on them altogether.
As a first step, using a fingernail biting deterrent such as a bitter tasting coating which is applied to the nails can help. Patience is needed while nails grow out to eliminate the effects of mistreatment
Then, investing in quality fingernail care products as part of an overall nail care system will gradually help an individual take pride in having attractive hands.
The Milagro Nail Care System includes a nail conditioner and cuticle conditioner which contain a rich combination of gentle botanicals, minerals, and amino acids which make the nail more flexible and resistant to breaking.

Tea Tree Oil Safe Treatment for Lice

Essential oils are becoming a popular method to deal with childhood head lice. The pesticide treatments commonly used contain toxins that pose serious health threats. Because the scalp has many blood vessels close to the skin, these toxic substances are absorbed directly into the bloodstream.
Pesticide treatments which are commonly used to repel lice contain toxins that pose serious health threats. Because the scalp has many blood vessels close to the skin, these toxic substances are absorbed directly into the bloodstream.
Harmful side effects from chemical lice treatments include nervous system damage, convulsions, seizures, nausea, vomiting, headaches, mental confusion and even death. To make matters worse, these pesticides are becoming less effective as lice are developing a resistance to them. This often leads to repeated treatments. The additional exposure adds to the potential harm.
Head lice are highly contagious and very common among children. Because certain essential oils are highly effective against lice, there is absolutely no reason to expose children to dangerous pesticide treatment.
Laboratory tests (Veal 1996) show the essential oils of aniseed, cinnamon leaf, red thyme, tea tree, peppermint, nutmeg and oregano to be effective in killing live lice and their eggs. Other essential oils used to repel lice include lavender, rosemary, eucalyptus, juniper berry, bergamot, clary sage, and lemongrass.
Tea tree oil may be the best choice for several reasons. Tea tree oil was found to be 93% effective against killing adult lice and 83% effective in killing their eggs. It is generally safe and is one of the only essential oils that can be used neat (undiluted) on the skin (in small amounts.) Tea tree oil can be used on children as young as one year old. Tea tree oil is so versatile that it should be on hand in every household. Having it on hand for other uses will prevent having to search for ingredients when dealing with a lice infestation that requires prompt action.
Many of the essential oils listed above should not be used on children. It is important to check safety data before using any essential oil. Oregano oil and red thyme oil should not be used at all. All essential oils, including tea tree should only be used by children on an "as needed" basis, and must be properly diluted.
Essential oils can be used both to rid the scalp of lice when an infestation is present and as a preventative measure when there is a potential threat.
To rid the scalp of lice the essential oils must be diluted in a vegetable oil or alcohol. Vegetable oil may be the best choice for smothering lice and to soothe scalp that may be sore or itchy from infestation.
Olive oil or vodka is fine if you have it on hand. Sweet almond oil, jojoba or grape seed oil are other good choices.
4 TBS (2oz) vegetable oil (or vodka)
1 tsp castor oil (optional)
20 drops tea tree oil
Blend well. Have child sit on a chair in the bathtub. Apply mixture to scalp and hair. Use only the necessary amount to make sure entire scalp and hair is coated. Cover with plastic shower cap. Leave on for several hours. Then wash and condition hair. Comb hair thoroughly with nit comb. Then rinse hair with the following rinse.
FINAL RINSE
1-quart warm water
¼ cup cider vinegar
2-5 drops tea tree oil
Shake well to disperse essential oil. Pour over clean hair. Do not rinse out. When hair dries, saturate a nit comb with tea tree oil and re-comb.
LAUNDRY
Lice can remain alive for up to 72 hours after they have left the human host. Re-infestation can occur if lice remain on pillows, bed linen, combs, clothes and towels. Completely wash all clothing and bedding. One teaspoon of tea tree oil can be added to each wash load. A few drops can be added to a washcloth and placed in the dryer with clothes and bedding. Dry on hottest setting available.
SHAMPOO
During the weeks following lice infestation use the following shampoo formula. Add 2-4 drops of tea tree oil to your normal amount of shampoo for one use. Leave shampoo in for five minutes before rinsing out. Finish with final rinse. Comb with nit comb.
PREVENTATIVE MEASURES
To prevent lice from infesting your child's hair, especially if there is a potential threat, several precautions can be taken. The shampoo and rinse formula described above can be used for precautionary measures. Another quick method to deter potential lice infestation is to dab a few drops of tea tree oil on your fingertips and run your finger through child's hair.
Warn your child about head to head contact with other children. Advise them not to share hats, helmets, brushes and hair accessories. If they are in day care or elementary school get in a habit of checking their scalp for nits on a regular basis. Early detection will allow quicker relief with fewer side effects such as itching and scabbing.
Tea tree oil is known as a "first aid kit in a bottle". If you keep a bottle on hand for possible lice infections, you will soon discover it's many other uses and benefits.

10 Tips to Maintain Health and Beauty

Beauty, health, and nutrition are all integrated. If you eat a balanced diet you will be able to maintain your physique and glowing beauty externally and good health internally. A balanced diet is one that provides all the nutrients you need, the right amount of proteins, carbohydrates, and fat.
To achieve goals you need to ensure a good balance in your diet, introduce variety into your meals, and practice moderation. The basis of nutrition lies in your height, weight, dimensions, and your daily energy needs. Once you know this you can compute what your daily calorific needs are and set goals for weight maintenance, gain, or loss. By regulating your diet you can be active as well as happy.
You must:
1. Eat sensibly. Include a variety of foods in your diet such that the 40 nutrients that are required by your body are present. Make use of a food pyramid and calorie chart to prepare tasty and nutritious meals. Follow the "Dietary Guidelines for Americans" issued each year.
2. Eat plenty of whole grains, fruits, and vegetables. They will supply you with essential vitamins, minerals, and protection from several diseases.
3. Maintain your weight at a healthy level. Successful weight management is one of the golden keys to good health. By doing is you will lower considerably the risk of many diseases like hypertension, diabetes, heart diseases, cancer, and osteoporosis.
4. Learn self control, eat moderate portions. The secret lies in eating everything but in small portions. Don't give way to gluttony or greed.
5. Make a time-table for your meals and how many calories will be in each meal. Never fast, starve yourself, or skip a meal. Eat when your body demands sustenance but not huge quantities.
6. Practice moderation. Good health does not lie in eliminating carbohydrates or fats. Include all your favorite foods but balance them with the rest of your diet. If you indulge your taste buds by eating pizza one day, then try and do so at lunch time, never eat pizza late at night. Ask for low fat cheese and healthy toppings. Eat just enough to satisfy your craving not all 12 slices. Get a few friends to share you sin. The days you indulge, eat sensibly the rest of the day--salads and fruits will help you make up for the binge.
7. Be sure your meals each day include all the food groups.
8. Plan to exercise every day. Either walk or take up aerobics, dancercise, or join a gym. Exercise will not just burn calories but put a glow into your skin, tone your muscles, and strengthen your bones. Exercise also removes accumulated toxins from your body.
9. Maintain a dairy in which you record your goals, and what you eat each day. Review your week objectively and create a table that shows at a glance what you did right and what you did wrong. This will help keep you on the right track.
10. Celebrate each victory. Give yourself a present or take yourself out every time you achieve a goal.
By eating healthy, one can live a complete and rounded life without diseases, reduce stress greatly, look and feel great, be happy from within and without, age well, produce healthy progeny, and live life to the fullest.

Learn How To Naturally Treat Dry Skin, Eczema And Psoriasis

Managing the problem of dry skin is a one billion dollar industry. Sufferers will go to great lengths to overcome the effects of dry skin and the symptoms brought on by eczema and psoriasis. The causes of dry skin are varied ranging from genetics, aging, exposure to heaters, fans, air conditioners to eczema and psoriasis.
Your occupation may require frequent hand washing which can leave your hands feeling dry, rough and cracked. This condition is often prevalent in nurses, waiters, hair dressers and moms to name just a few. It's important to learn how to naturally treat dry skin.
Eczema, called "the itch that rashes" because the itching begins before the rash appears, affects thirty million people in the United States, three million of whom are children. The most common form of this disease is called atopic dermatitis or atopic eczema affecting nearly 20% of the world's population. Incredibly 75% of children who suffer atopic dermatitis develop hay fever or asthma later on. 90% develop symptoms before they reach age 5. Learn how to naturally treat eczema.
Psoriasis, while not as prevalent as eczema, affects over seven million Americans with thousands of new cases diagnosed every year. Worldwide about 125 million people suffer from this disease. The most common form is called plaque psoriasis. While the exact cause of psoriasis is not known there is a theory. Skin cells on the surface of the skin are replaced every 27-28 days. With psoriasis, however, this replacement of cells happens much faster, every 3-4 days. This rapid replacement of cells before they mature wrecks havoc in the form of scaly white patches of skin that causes itchiness and often extreme irritation. It is best to avoid the triggers that can bring on psoriasis such as emotional stress, some prescription medications and skin injury to protect yourself against this disease and treat it naturally. Some might also have a genetic predisposition for psoriasis.
How does one find relief from itchy dry skin? Many products on the market seem to solve the problem part way. Petrolatum, though very greasy, has a long history of being a safe ingredient for drugs and cosmetics. It's more commonly known as its brand name Vaseline. It provides a protective barrier in the topmost layer of the skin retaining moisture which allows the skin to heal faster. Petrolatum, paired with glycerin in the right amounts, are probably the two most effective ingredients to battle itchy skin. For those who suffer psoriasis glycerin, with its ability to penetrate through layers of skin, will find much relief.

13 Natural Cholesterol Remedies That Work

Natural Cholesterol Remedies do help. The two main cholesterols are HDL ( high Density Lipoprotein) & LDL (Low Density Lipoprotein). They are commonly referred to as the good (HDL) and the Bad (LDL). This is really a bit of a misnomer because both are essential to our survival.
It turns out that about 80% of the cholesterol in our body is actually produced by our body. The reality is we can only control about 20% by what we ingest, with the foods we eat. Because of this, the corporate world has jumped on the bandwagon with a plethora of processed foods featuring claims of low cholesterol or NO cholesterol at all.
Here's what you need to think about, if 80% of the cholesterols in our bodies come from our own livers. What causes a cholesterol problem? Most often it is an imbalance. With you having either too little GOOD cholesterol, or having too much BAD cholesterol, or a combination of the two. Anyone of these states, is not the way it should be and needs to be corrected.
When our cholesterol levels do get out of balance, the tendency today-often-is the introduction of drugs--and the drug of choice is the Statin.
Statins are what I like to call maintenance drugs. That is drugs that are designed--not to cure a specific problem and then be discontinued, but rather a drug that you will need to take for the rest of your life, to control or manage an ailment. These types of drugs are a big win for the drug companies! But hardly--what anyone would consider a natural remedy!
Are there alternatives to the drugs? Yes, there are natural cholesterol remedies you can integrate into your regime to reduce and possibly eliminate your need for prescription medications. Now--I would never suggest you discontinue any medication, without first consulting a medical professional.
Here is a list of foods believed to be natural cholesterol remedies:
  • Almonds are a terrific way to reduce cholesterol. They also contain high levels of vitamin E.
  • Brussels Sprouts Are high in fiber and lower cholesterol by binding with bile acids the liver has produced for digesting fat.
  • Eating Avocados has been shown to reduce cholesterol levels by as much as 17% after just the first week. They have a compound called beta-sitosterol, which seems to have a huge impact on balancing cholesterol levels.
  • Blueberries OK researchers fed mice blueberries and found the blueberry diet reduced cholesterol levels equal to that of statin drugs, but unlike the drugs, there was no harmful side effects. You can't patent blueberries--although the drug companies may try!
  • Lentils are a great natural cholesterol remedy because they are very high in fiber which will absolutely lower cholesterol.
  • Artichokes The leaves of the artichoke have been shown to lower bad cholesterol (LDL) and raise good cholesterol (HDL).
  • Celery contains pthalides (pronounced thalides) and pthalides have demonstrated the ability to help increase bile acid secretion, which subsequently reduces cholesterol. So those cheese-whiz filled celery stalks your mom serves at thanksgiving aren't so bad after all!
  • It's the fiber. Zucchini reduces cholesterol because it contains fiber.
  • Cherries The University of Michigan has shown cherries help reduce cholesterol and they have also been shown to help reduce inflammation and body fat.
  • Apples An apple a day... It is amazing how this little rhyme from childhood is actually true. Turns out folks who consume a couple of apples a day, can reduce cholesterol by up to 16 %. A lot of people think the pectin found in apples causes this awesome effect.
  • Olive Oil For centuries olive oil has been part of the "Mediterranean Diet", arguably considered the healthiest diet. The natural antioxidants in Olive oil help control cholesterol and help prevent other risk factors for heart disease, such as hyper-tension.
  • Red Wine "Resveratrol" (a controversial element of red wine) is claimed to reduce LDL ("bad") cholesterol, when consumed in moderation (one 8 oz glass per day). As far as I'm concerned the jury is still out on this stuff!
  • Dark Chocolate Yum! Chocolate-Dark chocolate, seems to reduce LDL (Bad cholesterol) by as much as 10 percent. Recommended amount? 100 grams per day, but remember it has to be Dark Chocolate not milk chocolate!
The impact on cholesterol levels varies by the food eaten. Some foods work better than others at lowering cholesterol. But remember you can only control about 20% of the cholesterol in your body with the foods you eat. Sometimes the foods you need to eat have to be eaten in quantities that are un-realistic for many people. Sometimes in your busy schedule getting those fresh foods can be impossible. That's when the right kind of Cholesterol Balancing Supplements can really help.

How to Remove Skin Tags Fast

Want to know how to remove skin tags? Got questions like is it safe to remove a skin tag and can you do it easily without a visit to the doctor? The good news is that most of the time skin tags pose no threat to your health. This said, a skin tag can be unsightly or unnerving to the person who has it. It is more of a cosmetic problem and there are many different ways to get rid of them quickly within the comfort of your home. In this article, I will discuss a few of these methods.
Castor oil Castor oil is one of those ingredients that works on a lot of different skin related problems. It works on tags as well. Here is the method-
  1. Take some castor oil and mix it with baking soda until it forms a paste. Because castor oil is smelly (to say the least), I also recommend adding a couple drops of peppermint or lemon oil to it to help with the smell.
  2. Wash the affected area and liberally apply the paste to the skin tag.
  3. Repeat this 3 times a day until it is gone.
Typically this method takes roughly 2-4 weeks for it to go away. For those of you looking for a quicker method, you can try two separate methods that have been noted to work very quickly. I must give you a warning though....these methods of skin tag removal don't come without a little pain....
Cut it off- This is perhaps the quickest way to handle a skin tag problem. But this method is not for the weak-kneed.
  1. Take a pair of scissors OR fingernail clippers and disinfect them with alcohol.
  2. Liberally rub rubbing alcohol on your skin tag.
  3. Snip it from the base and then cover with a band aid to help stop the bleeding.
The problem with this method is that there is no guarantee that it won't grow back in a week or so.
Using Fingernail Polish to remove a skin tag- This is another popular method to removing a skin growth. The idea is to starve it of oxygen. Another variation of this method is to use duct tape as well.
  1. Take some clear fingernail polish and thoroughly cover the skin tag.
  2. Let dry.
  3. Repeat the process 2 times a day until the tag shrinks up and falls off.
This is just a few common ways to remove a skin growth. There are hundreds of other ways to do so...some using common household items..others using herbal extracts. What I am really trying to get at is that most of the time, you don't need to head to a doctor to remove one.

Or use of basil (tulsi) and azardirachta indica (neem) can work effectively on acne and also reduce there occurrence in future. For oily skin you would want to add peppermint, rosemary and possibly lavender. If you have dry skin add the following to help with that, chamomile, fennel seeds and roses.
Although steaming session needs no special expertise, one should be careful in certain aspects like- using it not more than twice in a week, as excess steam can lead to drying of pores, due to loss of moisture. This will lead to excess oil production, which will lead to acne again. One should not take too intense steam, as it can burn the skin. Similarly people who are asthmatic and people with breathing problems should be careful of additional ingredients like turmeric and others.
One might have laughed out the suggestion about steaming, when a granny or your aunt advised steaming your acne. But its beautifying properties will make you think twice now.

Symptoms of Throat Cancer - Having a Chronic Sore Throat?

Although there are many types and forms of cancer, the cancer of the throat is a dangerous type of cancer affecting many people around the world these days. The cancer of the throat can affect any human being, but a certain group of people are more prone to this form of cancer. Cancer of the throat is more prevalent in people who smoke regularly or are exposed to a lot of passive smoking. People with chronic acid reflux disease are also at a higher risk of contracting this type of cancer.
Another group of people that are more at risk of contracting cancer of the throat are those with a family history of this disease. A cancer that affects the pharynx (the area that connects the mouth and the nasal cavity), the vocal cords and/or the larynx (the voice box) in a patient is known as cancer of the throat. Each year some 5000 to 7000 people die of throat cancer in the United States. African American men are most at risk of contracting cancer of the throat. People with cancer of the throat are far more likely to have cancer in their pharynx than in the larynx. Men are much more at risk of having the cancer of the throat then women, and roughly 25000 new cases of throat cancer are diagnosed each year.
There are some symptoms that will point towards the cancer of the throat and if you have any of these symptoms you should consult a doctor as soon as possible. Like any disease an early diagnosis and treatment can save your life. Especially with cancer if it is diagnosed well in time treatment can be much more effective. Unfortunately the early symptoms for throat cancer are quite general and can be mistaken for some other conditions like sore throat, flu and common cold, these symptoms should not be ignored and a through checkup should be done to diagnose the problem correctly.
Chronic earaches are a common symptom of throat cancer; these aches can sometimes be mistaken for an ear infection caused by flu. Chronic sore throat is another major symptom of throat cancer and it can be persistent and not go away. A dry throat and difficulty speaking, sometimes it can feel like there is a lump in the back of the mouth, throat or neck, this symptom can also make one sound hoarse. Sometimes a patient suffering from cancer of the throat will feel numbness all over the face. A throat cancer patient can show visible sores on the tongue and mouth.
Pain or difficulty swallowing, some times difficulty even swallowing liquids are a symptom of throat cancer and should not be ignored. Sudden unexplained weight loss in any person is a sign of concern and is a symptom of throat cancer or some other type of cancer. Bleeding from the throat and blood in the sputum is another symptom of cancer of the throat. If you suffer from any of these symptoms or a combination of the symptoms get yourself properly checked out, it is not necessary that you are suffering from throat cancer just because you have some symptoms but it is important to rule out the presence of this dangerous disease in a timely manner.

Diabetes Food List - Healthy Eating for Type 2 Diabetes

What is a diabetes food list?
Being diagnosed with type 2 diabetes is a life-changing event. One of the main challenges is making changes in your diet.
One of the first questions that almost every patient diagnosed with type 2 diabetes asks is "What am I supposed to eat now?"
What you eat is a very important part of maintaining blood sugars in the target range. If a type 2 diabetic has no idea what to eat, being able to control blood sugar levels will be near impossible.
The goal in treating type 2 diabetes successfully is to make lifestyle changes.
My strategy when explaining diet is to keep it simple.
Your mindset should be one of adapting changes that enhance your lifestyle. Find something that works well for you.
There are a lot of websites out there on the Internet touting one diet or another. Some even speak about being able to "reverse type 2 diabetes."
Recently, the American Diabetes Association made some changes that make it easier for a newly diagnosed diabetic to get into action.
Do diabetes food lists really work?
In the past there was a lot of talk about 'diabetes food lists'. Diabetes food lists were thought of as restrictive. It's not likely that a patient is going to follow such a diet for a long time.
The fact is that the foods on a diabetes food list will work for anyone who is committed to a healthy lifestyle.
A diabetes food list helps people living with diabetes understand foods that help maintain the blood sugars within the target range. They will also help to reduce hyperglycemia.
There is a ton of information out there about what makes up a diabetes food list. It's OK to follow these. But I recommend just using them as a guideline that will help you to adapt healthy food choices.
Here are some of the current recommendations on how to eat healthy while living with type 2 diabetes:
Create your plate
The American Diabetes Association recently did away with the diabetes food pyramid and adapted the "create your plate." This is a strategy that makes it less overwhelming for someone just diagnosed with type 2 diabetes to get straight into action planning healthy meals.
So here are the steps to create a plate:
  • Take a standard sized dinner plate.
  • Divide it into three sections. Start by dividing in half. Then divide one of the halves in two. There you have three sections. Since it is divided into three sections, one section will be larger.
  • On the larger section of the plate, place you non-starchy vegetables such as broccoli, greens, lettuce, spinach, cucumbers, tomatoes etc.
  • On one of the smaller sections, place your starchy foods like rice (preferably brown rice), grains, corn, pasta, beans etc.
  • On the other small section place a serving of meat or a meat substitute such as turkey, chicken, fish etc.
  • On the side you may add an 8 oz. serving of milk. Or if you are lactose intolerant like a number of adults are, you can have some almond, soy or coconut milk. Water also works just fine.
  • Then a small serving of fruit. Preferably fresh fruit.
You have created your plate
Carbohydrate Counting
One of the important strategies for a person living with type 2 diabetes is to know the amount of sugars they are eating. This will help to reduce the complication of hyperglycemia.
Up till the mid 1990s, carbohydrates were touted as being bad for anyone with diabetes. Now we know that to not entirely be the case. Naturally everything, including carbohydrates, must be eaten in moderation.
A great tool is carbohydrate counting or "carb counting" as it is popularly called.
The strategy is to round up the total amount of carbohydrates that you are allowed in a day. And divide this equally among your meals - including snacks.
One of the advantages of carbohydrate counting is that it reduces the tendency for the blood sugar levels to fluctuate. This helps to prevent huge swings in insulin levels that could lead to fluctuations in blood sugar levels.
If you plan to use carbohydrate counting exclusively, then you may need the assistance of a nutritionist. They will help to customize a meal plan for you.
A good place to start is between 45-60 grams of carbohydrates per day.
Remember that carbohydrates are in starchy foods like breads, grains and pasta. They are also in fruits and vegetables, milk products.
Reading food labels makes it easier to measure how much carbohydrates you are getting in a meal.
What are Diabetes Super Foods?
The American Diabetes Association has a list of ten super foods that it recommends. I love the way that certain foods get tagged as "super foods."
Just as I like to point out, these "super foods" should be a part of the diet of anyone looking to live healthy.
The added benefit for a diabetic is that these foods help to give extra nutrients and minerals such as calcium, magnesium, and potassium. In addition they also contain powerful antioxidants.
These super foods help to not only control blood sugar levels. But also maintain the health of the cell membranes.
So here are the top ten super foods that everyone should be eating:
  • Berries of all kinds (blueberries, strawberries, raspberries etc.)
  • Dark leafy vegetables- such as spinach, kale and asparagus
  • Beans- all varieties. Beans are high in fiber and low in glycemic index
  • Fish particularly fish that is rich in omega 3 sources such as salmon, herring, sardines
  • Fat free milk & yoghurt
  • Nuts
  • Tomatoes
  • Sweet potatoes
  • Whole grains that have not been processed
  • Citrus fruits
This is by no means an exhaustive list of all the healthy ways to eat as a diabetic.

Oily Skin a Big Problem for Many Women

Oily skin is one of the biggest skincare problems that women mention. Practically all women have problems with excessive skin oiliness at some point in their lives. Here, you can learn about four causes and what you can do about it.
Cause #1: Hormonal Activity
As you may have read in one of my earlier articles, hormonal changes that occur during puberty stimulate the skin's glands causing them to produce more oil. As a woman, you will also have hormonal changes around your period, after childbirth and during menopause that can cause skin changes including excessive oiliness.
Cause #2: Diet
The skin's oil is called sebum. It is composed of fat. Eating a high fat diet increases your risk of oiliness, just as it increases your risk of heart disease.
Simple carbs such as white bread, potatoes and white rice can also play a role because they cause increased insulin production. Insulin can also stimulate the oil-producing glands.
Cause #3: Over-Cleansing
Excessive cleansing is one of the most common causes of oily skin. It may seem logical to wash your face three or four times a day using a strong cleanser. For a few minutes, your skin will feel less oily.
The problem is that excessive cleansing causes your glands to produce more oil. As the body becomes aware that the skin is dry, it wants to correct the problem. The oil serves a purpose. The goals should not be to get rid of the oil completely, but to balance the oil production.
Cause #4: Using the Wrong Skincare Products
This is the number one cause of oiliness. The ingredients commonly found in cosmetics and other skincare products can cause the skin to feel oily or greasy. Some of the ingredients to avoid include:
· Petrolatum-otherwise known as Vaseline-found in shampoos, body washes, facial cleansers, sunscreens and moisturizers
· Mineral oil-the liquefied version of petrolatum-found in makeup, foundation, moisturizer, body lotion, body wash, sunscreens and many other skincare products
· Cocoa butter-not compatible with the skin's own oils-found in moisturizers, sunscreens, tanning lotion, etc.
Those ingredients do not have the same effect as excessive cleansing. They don't cause your body to product more oil. They simply make your skin feel oily.
The Solutions
You can't stop hormonal activity from happening, but a healthy diet and good dietary supplements can help to balance your hormones. You can make healthy dietary changes, avoid over-cleansing and avoid bad skincare products. Those solutions take time. What you probably want right now is an immediate solution.
The immediate solution for oily skin is a deep cleansing mask containing kaolin, bentone gel and other natural ingredients that dry up excessive skin oils while gently pulling dirt and grime out of the pores. The mask will solve the problem temporarily.

Cracked Heels - Home Remedies To Implement To Relieve Cracked Heels

Everyone has once or twice had to deal with the unsightly issue of cracked heels. Other than not being very appealing to the eye, cracked heels can also get so extreme that they can actually cause discomfort. In this article I am going to discuss some things that you can use in your own home to help find relief from cracked heels.
Foot Soak
Cleaning and moisturizing your foot is the easiest and first step to healing your heels. This must become a daily ritual. At the end of the day soak your feet in warm salty water for about 10 to 15 minutes. Directly after drying your feet, apply some foot cream. Additionally, wear a pair of sock straight after applying the moisturizer and leave them on the whole night. You could also try mixing 1 cup of honey and 1 gallon of warm water and soaking your feet in the mixture for 10 to 15 minutes. This helps make your feet a bit softer.
Ripe Bananas
Although this might sound a bit weird, some stick by using ripe bananas as a beauty aid. Mash one ripe banana and apply it your dry heels. Leave the mash on for 10 to 15 minutes and wash with cold or warm water.
Olive Oil
Olive oil does not only need to be used for cooking but can also be used for taking care of your heels. Apply olive oil to your cracked heels just before going to bed. However, do not wash the oil away. After applying the olive oil, wear a pair of socks and leave them on overnight
Lemon Scrub
Prepare a mixture of Vaseline and lemon by taking one teaspoon of Vaseline and adding lemon juice to it. Soak your feet in soapy, warm water for 10 to 15 minutes. Thoroughly wash and dry your feet. Rub the lemon and Vaseline mixture on the cracked areas of your heels. Alternatively, you could just cut a lemon and rub it directly on your feet. You can add a little bit of Vaseline to make the rubbing smoother. However, if your heels are severely cracked, this may cause you some discomfort as the acidity of the lemon will cause you to experience a burning sensation on the open cracks.
Diet
Although it might not be obvious, your diet plays a bit part in the health of your skin. Crack skin, such as cracked heels, can be due to a deficiency of vitamins, minerals, zinc and omega 3 fatty acids. Make sure to supplement your diet with these essential nutrients. Make sure you keep your body hydrated by drinking 8-10 glasses of water per day as good hydration helps keep your skin looking soft and healthy

Make Yellow Teeth White - How to Whiten Your Teeth at Home

To most people, having white teeth is very important. A bright shining smile leaves a good impression, and can be a valuable asset in your social life, relationships and career. In fact, studies have shown that people are naturally attracted to people who have white teeth over those whose teeth are, shall we say, not so wonderful.
This combined with other more personal reasons (the confidence boost white teeth can give, a sense of personal pride, a positive self image, to name a few) means that many people are looking for a way to make yellow teeth white.
But what can you do? If you like most people follow a rigid dental hygiene regime, with regular brushing, flossing and rinsing with mouthwash, avoiding sugary foods and teeth staining stuff like tea, coffee, red wine and cigarettes, and still struggle with yellow teeth, you'd probably like a solution that's quick, easy, and won't break the bank.
Well, there's two options. The first is dental tooth bleaching. This is done by your dentist, and can be done using special dental scrubs and solutions, or using a laser light treatment. This is very effective at getting yellow teeth white, but can also be very expensive and time consuming.
The second option, which more and more people each day are having huge success with, is home tooth whitening. This involves getting a kit that includes a whitening gel or paste that is applied to the teeth through a special teeth tray (like a football mouthguard), or through flexible strips that attach to the teeth, or through a swab or lightening pen that releases a whitening solution on to the teeth.
These products are very reasonably priced, and thanks to the booming industry that has seen years and years of development and research, have reached the point where many of them are as effective or even better than the dental option. Additionally, the industry boom also means that many companies are constantly offering very good deals, specials and free trials on their products, which means you can try lots of these treatments for very cheap or even free.
If you are looking for a cheap, easy and fast way to make yellow teeth white, take a look into home whitening kits, you won't be disappointed.
Are you sick of having yellow, stained or discolored teeth? Looking for a way to make yellow teeth white Come see how the best home whitening kits stack up against each other and see which is the most effective at making teeth whiter

10 Super Foods to Eat During Your Pregnancy

Let's face it: not all foods are created equally. In fact, some foods provide excellent benefits for expecting mothers. Since the nutrition requirements change for a mother-to-be from trimester to trimester, it's important to know which foods pack the most punch. Here are 10 super foods you should be eating during your pregnancy and their benefits.
Almonds
Though small, these little nuts contain high levels of antioxidants as well as healthy fats, which are essential for brain development. Almonds also contain protein and calcium. Just one handful daily is all you need.
Avocadoes
Avocadoes truly exist as one of nature's super foods. These creamy-textured fruits contain high levels of healthy fats, which support brain development. They also provide vitamin K, potassium, and folic acid.
Beans
Beans are not only a great source of protein, but soluble fiber as well. Many expecting mothers often experience constipation, particularly later in pregnancy. Beans can help you stay regular while providing iron and antioxidants as well.
Berries
Berries of all kinds, including blueberries, strawberries, and raspberries contain high levels of antioxidants as well as vitamin C. This vitamin helps your body absorb iron, which is responsible for delivering oxygen everywhere it needs to go.
Broccoli
Try to eat broccoli a couple times each week. This super vegetable offers outstanding levels of folate, calcium, beta-carotene, iron, and fiber among other vitamins and minerals. Raw broccoli offers more nutrition than cooked. If it doesn't appeal to you raw, lightly steam it instead.
Dark, Leafy Greens
Dark, leafy greens such as spinach and kale contain high amounts of folic acid, which is particularly important during your first trimester. Folic acid, or folate, prevents neural tube defects from occurring in your baby. Neural tube defects negatively affect brain and spinal cord development.
Eggs
Eggs are a fantastic protein source with less fat than other animal-based protein sources. They contain many essential amino acids, which the body needs to create protein. Inexpensive and quick to prepare, eggs can be enjoyed in a variety of ways, which reduces the likelihood you'll get bored with them.
Greek Yogurt
Greek yogurt contains significantly higher protein levels than traditional yogurt, and many women find it's thick, creamy texture appealing. It's also a great source of calcium, which your baby needs, particularly in the third trimester for building a strong skeletal system.
Rolled Oats
Skip the instant stuff and go for traditional rolled oats. This whole grain is both filling and nutritious since it offers complex carbohydrates as well as fiber. Many manufacturers also fortify oatmeal with folic acid. Keep things interesting by adding nuts, berries, or molasses to your morning bowl.
Salmon
Salmon exists as an excellent natural source of omega-3 fatty acids, which are a cornerstone of healthy brain function. In general, fish is a better choice over red meats because it is the leaner protein. However, fish should be consumed in moderation due to potential mercury contamination.
It's no secret that you're eating for two-the secret is eating the right foods for both of you. The best foods for an expectant mother are those that contain high levels of protein, iron, folic acid, and calcium as these nutrients are needed by your growing baby to build healthy muscles, bones, and blood. Other key nutrients include fiber and omega-3 fatty acids. The next time you feel hungry, skip the candy bar and opt for a handful of nuts or a hard-boiled egg instead; both your body and your baby will thank you.

How to Cure Your Earache Easily

Earaches are a common condition that occurs for many people; about 80% of the population will experience at least one in their lifetime. When an earache hits, the feeling of pain and helplessness can be overwhelming and too much to bear at times.
Yet, earaches are quite easy cured. Here are a few methods that will show you how you should cure an earache:
1.) For immediate relief, try using a hairdryer to blow warm air into the affected ear. The warm air will soothe the pain that's inside. This method is particularly effective when the person is suffering from Swimmer's Ear.
2.) If earache-affected person is suffering from an infection, garlic oil is recommended for curing the condition. Gently warm a few drops of garlic oil first, then pour it down the affected ear canal. The garlic oil will cleanse the ear, soothe the pain and will also help fight the infection.
3.) Earwax can also be the cause of earaches, due to an excessive buildup of the substance inside the ear canal. In order to cure this, you can use a Hydrogen Peroxide solution. Pour a few drops of it inside the ear, then lie down on the side for it to dissolve the earwax. After a few minutes, when it feels like the process is complete, drain the solution and the dissolved earwax into a piece of tissue paper.
4.) Heat pads and warm towels can also help in soothing earaches. Simply place a heat pad or a towel soaked in warm water against the affected ear.
These are just some methods that you can use to bring relief for your earaches. However, there are many cures for earache, each for different types of earaches.
Do take note that the above remedies do not serve as a cure for all types of earaches (e.g. Hydrogen Peroxide does nothing for ear infections)

How to Control Dust Mite Allergy

At least 12 million Britons now suffer from allergies caused by dust mites according to the charity Allergy UK. They carried out a small survey among 1,600 allergy sufferers. According to that, the most popular allergies are house dust mites at 57.6%, followed by pets (45.2%), cleaning products (31.2%) and mould (30.9%).
· 58.9% of indoor allergy sufferers found their symptoms were worse in the bedroom.
· The average bed harbours 2 million dust mites and the average pillow doubles in weight over a period of six months due to dust mites faeces
· 16% of allergy sufferers said they wash bed linen every three weeks or less often, and 58% of those surveyed said they are washing at 30 or 40 degrees.
· 13% of allergy sufferers have had their current mattress for 11 years or more, and 3% kept theirs for 20 years or longer.
Mites are found in bedding, carpets, soft furnishings and clothing. Each mite produces about 20 of these waste droppings every day and the droppings continue to cause allergic symptoms even after the mite has died.
Controlling house dust mite allergens
1. Clean Regularly.
2. Wash Bedding Regularly. Putting your bed sheets through a 140°F (60°C) wash is usually enough to kill them and remove their fecal matter and skin particles.
3. Use an Anti-Allergy Mattress and Mattress Cover. Estimates as to how many dust mites actually live in an average mattress vary wildly from 10,000 to over a million.
4. Don't Make Your Bed in the Morning. This gives the moisture excreted from our bodies time to dry.
5. Get Rid of Feather Pillows and Duvets. Try using hypoallergenic synthetic pillows and duvets instead. They provide a less cosy environment for them and you can blast them through the wash at 140°F (60°C) which is the magic temperature for killing the mites.
6. Replace Carpets with Hard Flooring. Like beds and soft furnishings, carpets are a paradise for these microorganisms. Carpets trap dead skin and pet dander which the mites feed on.
7. Control Temperature and Humidity. Dust mites love living in an environment where the temperature is between 75°F and 80°F (24°C and 27°C) and the relative humidity is around 70% to 80%. Anything outside this range won't necessarily kill them but will push them outside their comfort zone and slow down their breeding. Set the temperature inside your house to no higher than 70°F (21°C). Anything lower than 70% relative humidity reduces their reproductive rate. Try to keep relative humidity in your bedroom and home to less than 50%.
8. Keep Pets Out of the Bedroom. Dust mites love pet dander. Make pets sleep outside or in the garage if possible and limit their indoor freedom to one or two rooms. Make an extra effort to keep pets out of the bedroom.
9. Get Rid of Curtains, Cushions and Soft Furnishings. Curtains and soft furnishings are a dust mites paradise. Fabric traps the dust and moisture which they feed on and shields them from potential threats. Replace curtains with easy-to-clean blinds.
10. Use a Steam Cleaner. Steam cleaners are a great way to clean items and objects that aren't suitable for a washing machine. You can use them on carpets, curtains, cushions, kitchen/bathroom surfaces and a thousand other places. The steam kills bacteria, dissolves dirt and yes, kills dust mites.

Pain Management - Hiatal Hernia or Acid Reflux? - How to Cure Both

Acid Reflux - Hiatal Hernia
The Hiatal Hernia - Acid Reflux has been called the "great mimic", because it mimics many disorders. A person with this condition can get such severe pains in their chest that they think they are having a heart attack. They may think they have an over acid stomach because they will regurgitate stomach acid after they eat, or their stomach may hurt so badly they will think they have an ulcer. This is just a sampling of the symptoms that may occur from this disorder.
We always recommend that you see a medical professional to make sure there is nothing seriously wrong.
What is a Hiatal Hernia?
When you swallow, your food passes down a long tube known as the esophagus into the stomach. This tube must pass through a muscle known as the diaphragm, which is located near the bottom of your rib cage.
This opening in the diaphragm, which permits the esophagus to pass through, is regulated by a sphincter muscle (or "valve"), which relaxes and opens, when we swallow, to permit the food to pass through the diaphragm and into the stomach. This sphincter or valve closes to prevent stomach acid from coming back up into the throat.
A hiatal hernia-acid reflux occurs when the top of the stomach rolls or slides up into this opening and becomes stuck there.
Naturally, when part of the stomach is forced up into the
diaphragm the sphincter muscle cannot close properly.
Thus, stomach acid may travel back up into the esophagus causing burning sensations (heartburn), esophageal spasms, inflammations and ulcers. (known as the Acid Reflux)
Your diaphragm is a muscle. The diaphragm has three large openings for passage of the aorta, esophagus, and vena cana. When you don't use your diaphragm to breathe, it weakens, and becomes flaccid.
This allows your stomach to be pushed through your diaphragm by gas pressure in your digestive tract in what is known as a hiatal hernia. The resulting pain is often confused for the onset of a heart attack.
A flaccid diaphragm most often results from chest breathing or shallow breathing.
The digestive tract has a series of one way valves to keep food material moving in the correct direction: the esophageal valve in the esophagus, a sphincter muscle valve between the esophagus and the stomach. The pyloric valve between the stomach and the small intestine, the ileocecal valve between the small intestine and the large intestine, and the Houston valve in the descending colon.
When one or more of these valves malfunctions, pressure from gas in the intestines may force food material to back up, pushing stomach acid into the esophagus.
The interesting discovery that we made with our studies in kinesiology was the relationship between these valves and the diaphragm muscle.
The valves generally do not malfunction as long as the diaphragm muscle remains strong and in balance. Once the diaphragm muscle weakens one or more of these valves may malfunction leading to a hiatal hernia and/or acid reflux.
Once the causes of mock heart attack (hiatal hernia) and acid reflux are properly identified, the preferred treatment becomes apparent. Both conditions can be corrected by doing diaphragmatic breathing exercises that both strengthen the diaphragm muscle and force the stomach down and out of the diaphragm.
Technique in Practicing Using The Diaphragm
1. Place your hand on your stomach
When you take an in-breath your stomach goes out.
2. When you release your breath your stomach goes in.
This may be difficult to do at the beginning.
To practice, you can lie on your back and put a book on your stomach. Concentrate with your in-breath pushing the book up and letting it fall when you release your breath.
This exercise can be done on the spot in whatever position you happen to be, standing, sitting, or lying down.
What I have discovered is that when I went to bed at night and did not feel very well, I would put my hand on my stomach and concentrate when taking an in breath to push my stomach out and feel it relax when I let my breath out. I would do this slowly.
The ultimate answer is learning to breathe with your diaphragm all the time. This involves regular practice of diaphragmatic breathing, and a continuing consciousness of how you are breathing.
As you continue this over a period of time, diaphragmatic breathing will become automatic.
A further benefit of diaphragmatic breathing is improved airflow into the lower parts of the lungs and better oxygenation
Once again we have found that helping your body to heal itself through muscle and energy balancing often provides satisfactory results in the long run.
Proper diaphragmatic breathing is important for our overall well-being. Proper diaphragmatic breathing assists us to properly oxygenate our body, particularly during physical exercise, reducing chronic fatigue due to shallow breathing.
It also helps us to maintain proper muscle tone in our diaphragm. This in turn helps us to hold our abdominal organs in the proper position and to reduce abdominal and chest pains. This is often helpful after eating to reduce gastronomic distress.
Another important feature of the Barhydt basic balances is that they always drive the body-mind toward equilibrium (or balance).
A person cannot harm himself or herself by doing these balancing exercises. Just do the exercise if you feel it may be helpful; it generally takes just a few seconds in any case. This makes basic balancing exercises appropriate for self-help.
Another benefit I have discovered when I learned to breathe using my diaphragm is that I can eat most anything like tomato-based foods (ketchup, spaghetti sauce), citrus fruits, mint, and even chocolate within moderation.
